Packed and Unpacked

packed:  my book bag

unpacked: Owen's buttum (yay!)

packed: beach towels & bathing suits

unpacked: everything else

KWB continues to bring books home from school everyday and I'm losing track. Too many libraries. When asked if he could slow it down he said very matter-of factly, " I read."

That's my boy.

Because I needed one more thing to do...

i bought some furniture on the way home from dropping my kids off at school - a yard sale on a Tuesday  morning.

I had to make 2 trips, take the backseat out of the windbag (our van aka a ford windstar), load, unload, and clean it (cat hair central).  I know it's a little funky - but I loved it. It's perfect for the kid's playroom/our library/room that we don't know what to call it - 'cuz it's vinyl. And the cushions don't come off. I found  a tag on the back of the sofa that it's office furniture, made in D.C. baby.

I never would have seen it if I hadn't been traveling the am route (back roads) to school. Karl was too ill to protest. So it all worked out.

Today  - went on a field trip with Caleb's class.  We visited the construction site for their new school building.  Few things are cuter than a line of 5 year olds with hard hats on... super fun and a perfect trip for nosy ole me.  Our friend Steve the builder is the manager of the project and it is amazing to see the progress since groundbreaking in May.

And no, I still haven't packed. Countdown tminus 3 days.

2 for Tuesday

1. the hubs is illin', seriously - so i'm gonna be doing all the driving today. i think he may have food poisoning - and since i'm not sick yet i'm guessing i didn't cook it (thankfully)

2. finished Careful Use of Compliments by Alexander McCall Smith.  Some of you may have read the No.1 Ladies Detective series by the same author. This series is about a lady philosopher in Edinburgh and like Mary, I prefer these. This one was #4. I realized once I got into it that I missed #3 and some serious plot happenings. #4 was okay. I remember really liking 1 & 2.

2a. I stopped reading Backstage with Julia, all the chapters started to sound exactly the same. Basically - this is where we went, we cooked, and Julia is awesome.  I already knew Julia was awesome, and the way this woman tells the story is just plain boring. It could be an article in Good Housekeeping (i.e. much shorter and kinda bland) which I read thanks to mom Janice.

Countdown to Vacay

anyone wanna help me pack?

We are leaving Saturday soccer for our OBX trip. I can't wait. I definitely feel like we need a break here and the beach is the perfect thing. We are stopping in Dewey (gotta get some Grotto) first, we wanted to try the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. This should be an interesting adventure considering neither Caleb nor I are big bridge/tunnel fans. Oh well.

And my biggest vacay dilemna is what books am I going to bring?   Leave me some suggestions - library day is tomorrow.

Here's my scrappin from the past couple weeks.

Its_okay old picture - i'm preggo with Caleb & Karl is 2 1/2. kit is sept studio calico.

Weekend Update

1. Owen's dr appt went well - kind of. We are taking a "top down approach" - meaning we upped his meds and added some mineral oil to the regimen. Hopefully the "dam will burst" this weekend. Lovely.

2. Got my haircut yesterday  - the verdict is still out until I have a chance to wash it and see how funky it dries.

3. Scrapped last night with Miji, go on girl.

4. Did the drawing (using a Darth Vader helmet)-  and the WINNER IS:

Win_ed

Elizabeth! Email me your addy and tell me how you liked Wicket's Remedy, if you please. Now you won't have to worry about that pesky due date..

5. Jude had her baby - love his name! Congrats to the fam and welcome to the land of 3 boys. I wish I looked that good after I delivered - for pics click on the link on the left. Beautiful.

6. If you want to see something cool - lookie at Vee's blog for her new mini book.

6. Karl's team won their soccer game this morning.

7. School picnic this afternoon. We're supposed to bring a main dish - hello KFC.

8. Finished the book If I Am Missing or Dead (see column on right for link) and if anything it left me convinced that dads need to cherish & protect their girls. Those sisters were all kinds of messed up. And that was her point.

Owen and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day

Well, we had to treat the Owen's buttum issues - the Dr. ordered up an enema. As if that wasn't enough, the Owen got a bee sting on his belly AND fell off the bar stool in the kitchen while eating his dinner. He might be the toughest tike we know as he is completely unscathed by all of the above experiences. A little bit of a wimpering when we expected much shouting. He did come in our room last night about 3am and crawled in bed.  And to that I say - bring your poor little self on in.

On a much lighter note, I started Backstage with Julia and The Rest of Her Life (the new one by Laura Moriarty). Didn't get to finish Tested so I may have to buy it.  I would really like to see where it ends up.

Dinner tonight with the headmaster & his wife (KWB's teacher).

Update

Thanks to everyone for your concern about the Owen. We had a message from the dr. last night. The xray shows he is seriously constipated. This is probably the best of all the possibilities so we are thankful. On Monday we will getting some more information so we'll know how to proceed. It can't be too pretty though, right?

I had a fab-o time scrapping with Vee and talking about all the new products.  She was working on something cool and I can't wait to see how it turns out! Great Scraps (in Millersville) puts on a nice crop for $10 so if you're in the area, check them out.

To all the girls meeting in NoVA/DC today - have a blast! I'll be looking for an indication that you actually got some scrapping done :).

A beautiful morning here - all about soccer and yard sales. Those are two words that just scream "fall is here!"

Caleb had an interesting game - he has decided that any time he is either brushed against or touched in any way that he needs to fall down. Lots of drama. No crying, just him good naturedly sliding onto the ground all the time. We'll be working on that this week. KWB is still playing.

Maybe I'll finish Tested in time to return to the library without any "rental" fees. Maybe not.

The Owen is a Trooper

The Owen and I left at 9am for his 9:30 Dr visit. I scheduled it to talk about his diaper issues (which he has had for some time).  We had already eliminated apple juice, tried Kool-Aid, and a few other things the Dr recommended on our last visit.  We have a very fun pediatrician so the kids get excited to see him.  He felt around the Owen's belly and sent us to get an x-ray and ultrasound to check for an obstruction.

We had to go pick up Caleb first. Then arrived at the walk-in radiology place at lunchtime - perfect!  We waited about 45 minutes while the Owen read Time magazine and Caleb read Car & Driver. They were comparing various pictures and  competing to see whose magazine had the coolest ones. The Owen may have won with the child bullfighter - "Hey look that kid has a sa-word". They then went on to entertain a baby, play with their happy meal toys - which involved a squirrel's tail, the Owen took the opportunity to loudly explain to me about the butt-tail and how you stick a pencil in it for the toy to work. Lovely. Thanks McDs for such an educational toy.

The technician called out for the Owen and he turns to me and says "HEY SHE SAID OWEN". And stood there as if there would be several Owens in the room.  His main concern was that he didn't want anyone to see any of his body parts. He put on the gown, excuse me "robe, mom". And we went in to the xray room where the super nice technician girl let him put his blankie over his belly for privacy.

Caleb and I waited in the hall and we heard the Owen chatting her up about all the eqiupment. I'm just relieved he didn't cause a malfunction by pressing buttons that he shouldn't have.  I asked the Owen if he wanted to stop and get a treat and he said "and Caleb too? Cuz he did a good job, right?". And for that nice long morning we had some Dunkin' to absorb the grease from the McD lunch.

I am not worried, yet. I am glad we may finally get some answers and am hopeful that the fix is relatively easy. Your prayers are always appreciated.  We expect to hear from the Dr. this afternoon. My hubs is picking up KWB at 3pm so we don't have to turn around and go.  I still need to pack for my scrap night and boy could I ever use one.

Monday is a fun giveaway day here so.. have a great weekend!!
