leif goes local

This Friday, my favorite author (Leif Enger) will be at Politics and Prose in DC.

I am taking the hubs on a "date" to the bookstore.

I am missing my girls' night out.

I am rereading So Brave Young and Handsome.

I will refrain from bringing up Peace Like a River.

I am officially the queen of the nerds.

Field Trip

I went with KWB's class yesterday to the National Gallery of Art. And I learned I need to go back when I can linger. The kids did great especially considering our pace and you can't beat seeing art in person. KWB wants to go back too, so I guess I'll make two trips....twist my arm.

We covered a lot of ground, observe:

Matisse

Picasso

Calder's mobiles

Vermeer (the kids have been reading Chasing Vermeer by Blue Baillett in class)

Monet

talked about the archtitecture of the West Gallery rotunda, the composition of Daniel in the Lions Den by Peter Paul Rubens, and egg tempera paint in The Adoration of the Magi

All this to say, whatever you are doing today, take the time to find something beautiful and inspiring.

summer cuts

Blog_cuts  good thing they LOVE the barber shop. they now have to put up with excessive amounts of head rubbing, even from strangers. apparently, the buzz cut is waning in popularity - except in our house.

and i still need a haircut too. i don't think i'll be going quite this short. :)

another week goes by...

and i'm officially not reading any books. i haven't posted online bookclub Qs for May or the rest of April. but i have been scrapping and cooking so it hasn't been a total waste. although, the name of the blog isn't scrapchick or cookchick, i know you will be kind and stay tuned. i'll get back to reading...eventually.

Twinkle  when Caleb was 2.

Winter_shoes man, those were great shoes.

Hanbok look at them in their Korean dresses and look at me using Korean (thanks Meej)

Basement cleaning

Our basement remodel begins MONDAY - one week ahead of schedule...and of course we were counting on those 7 days to finish clearing it out. I am excited to purge the remaining junk that didn't make the cut during the last 2 moves. And looking forward to having some extra space and doing a toy/game reorg. First things first, getting rid of the stuff. Take no prisoners.

our resident poet laureate

KWB has been reading ALOT of Jack Pretlutsky and you can see the influence here:

                                    A Big and Hairy Dellima

A Big and Hairy Dellima

came to the door

It squashed the house with berries,

dropped bananas on the floor.

It was only having fun

It made a grape juice geyser

His fun was done

When I shot him with a tranquilizer.
