If you've followed along for the last few months of 2008, you may be able to predict what's going on my top 11 list. But there was a request for an official list and I thank you for giving me something to blog about. :) So here goes in no particular order:
- Tomato Girl by Jayne Pupek - hip hip hooray! We love Jayne here and I've been seeing this book on lots of book bloggers Top Ten lists.
- Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri - loveliness in short stories.
- The God of Animals by Aryn Kyle
- What is the What by Dave Eggers *
- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows
- White Mary by Kira Salak
- The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak (it seems so long ago that I read this, but really it was just a year)
- The House at Riverton by Kate Morton
- Persepolis by Marjane Sartrapi
- Tethered by Amy Mackinnon
- Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
* This past weekend we watched God Grew Tired Of Us which is a documentary following 3 of the Lost Boys from their refugee camp to the United States. It is a wonderful companion to What is the What - putting a visual on living conditions and situations difficult to imagine from our comfy couches.
My favorite ya books this year were:
- Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
- Savvy by Ingrid Law
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
In memoirs, I enjoyed:
- Little Heathens by Mildred Armstrong Kalish
- The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan
- Comfort by Ann Hood
Okay, your turn. If you made a list on your blog, include the link in your comment. Otherwise, feel free to include your full list or just a few titles. I'd love to see your favorites.
The End.
