This follow-up to Karen White's bestseller The House on Tradd Street continues with Charleston realtor Melanie Middleton and writer Jack Trenholm, as they try to solve yet another mystery. Melanie's estranged mother returns to town to help uncover the secrets that lie buried in their former house.
Generally, I'm not a big ghost story kind of girl. But I got totally engrossed and never looked back. And I am struggling to properly describe a story that required so much suspension of disbelief yet delivered a compelling mystery with a dash of romance. There were times when my eyes rolled. And a few instances when I wanted to scream at Melanie to act her age, not her shoe size. And just one other time when she had a romantic encounter with a ghost - puh-leez. But aside from those minor annoyances, I remained hooked - mostly due to the mystery. If you are looking for a reading pick-me-up this is a good one. If ghost stories aren't your thing...I also enjoyed Karen White's book The Lost Hours earlier this year.
Karen White's books are my latest guilty pleasure and now I am backtracking to Tradd Street and preparing for the third in the series not due until 2011.
