Hungry Like the Wolf

Imagine my surprise when this showed up at my door:

Wild Boy: My Life in Duran Duran by Andy Taylor (available September 9)

I had to giggle and then give a good concert style shriek. Granted, John Taylor was my favorite but this will do nicely.

How did my new book release radar miss this?

How did my lovely friend at Hatchette Book Group know this band consumed me from 1982-1985?

Did she know that I would spend all my allowance, and then some, on magazines from Japan just for the pictures?

How could she possibly know about the ear splitting screams my mom and aunt had to endure at the Duran Duran concert?

Oh, and did she know that Trish and I would scour Heroes World at Columbia Mall for the latest pin, picture, or book? Or that we were planning our weddings to various band members?

I don't have any idea how this happened, except frightening coincidence. But I do know what I'll be reading this week.

Thanks HBG for hooking up an aging Durannie. Who was your favorite?  Don't leave me out here alone.

There, I've said it. It is official - I have no shame. If you have an advance reading copy (arc) or any other copy for that matter that you'd like me to read I will do it. If you offer me a book outside my preferences -contemporary fiction, children's lit, or memoirs - I probably won't.

My experience with ARCs so far, while limited, has been very good.

Keeper and Kid by Edward Hardy was fantastic and everyone i know has liked it too.

Bulls Island by Dorothea Benton Frank was outside my normal genre, but thoroughly enjoyable and now my neighbors like it too. Even though I liked it, I learned from this not to accept books I wouldn't ordinarily choose - it's not fair to the author or my peeps.

And I just received this:

In the Land of Invisible Women by Dr. Qanta A. Ahmed

to read and review from Sourcebooks. And you know how I love Middle Eastern memoirs. Of course, you'll be the first to know what I think.

I also need to update the feed with at least 5 reviews...so look for those to slowly roll out this week.

preorder booklist

Anyone preorder books? I rarely do, but i love the idea of ordering something, forgetting about it, and retrieving a package with a surprise containing exactly what i want. Sending a gift to yourself in the future.

Since I can barely keep up with reading books that are actually published and available, i don't really want to spend more on hardcovers just for them to sit around in my stacks for a year until i get to them.

Here are a few titles i am looking forward to:

The Penderwicks on Gardham Street by Jeanne Birdsall - April 2008, sequel to the Penderwicks

The Middle Place - Kelly Corrigan ( a memoir)...shipping next week.

The Creative Family - Amanda Soule , coming in April (see her blog soulemama)

4th book in Maisie Dobbs series - An Incomplete Revenge  by Jacqueline Winspear, coming in Feb.

and this....well if you know me, you know there are no words to express my excitement. And, I don't even know what it's about. Coming the end of April.
