There is much buzz surrounding The Passage by Justin Cronin. I watched it sell out before my eyes. Stood in my favorite little bookstore while six signed copies were snatched off the shelf in about 30 minutes. Trish at Hey Lady! loved it - her review is here. If you want an introduction to the author while you are waiting on The Passage (whether still deciding or on a long library waitlist), I highly recommend The Summer Guest. A wonderful story that follows two families over several decades at a fishing camp in Maine - it had a very Wallace Stegner feel (check out Crossing to Safety, one of my faves). This was a welcome discovery since Oops, I brought the wrong book pile to the beach - more on that later.
The winner of last week's book giveaway, My Name is Mary Sutter is: Suzanne. Congratulations!
KWB asked me why the vacation homes we rent always have James Patterson books. Thus I had to try to explain the concept of beach reads...and it sounded stupid. What would you say?
Finally, I'd like to introduce you to my cousin and fellow avid reader, Trish. She will be reading and reviewing books I'd like to read more of but don't have time for including southern fiction. Trish has the best library luck of anyone I know. She lives with her husband and two Corgis and enjoys running, cooking, trying new restaurants, teaching Spinning classes, and the Baltimore Ravens. (Blood is thicker than football, go Skins!) Please say hi to Trish.
The End.
