I flat out adored this book. (Everyone breathe the collective sigh of relief with me)
It combined some of my favorite literary themes - Set in New England, male characters, humor and truth. James Keeper lives with his girlfriend and works in a world of found objects -at a shop and salvage yard -
" I love the yard. It's an entire world of saved parts and second chances."
I love when I find the perfect description of the book while reading it, and the fact that it is one sentence just means the writing is lovely and spare without sacrificing on necessary details.
Anyhow, when Keeper's ex wife dies suddenly, he goes to retrieve their dog and finds out he has a son. Rather than being a schmaltzy or cutesy look at Keeper's fish out of water experiences as a dad, it seemed to be very authentic and natural. My only issue is with the ending. It seemed a little too neat, I like closure just not always so tidy.
Even though I loved this book, I have yet to figure out if it would work well as a discussion. So, go and read it and we can practice discussing. :)
The End.
