No One You Know by Michelle Richmond
Started and finished during our car trip to the beach, I was surprised how much I liked this one. When Ellie's sister, mathematician Lila, is murdered she never recovers. It doesn't help that one of Ellie's professors betrays her confidence by writing a true crime book about Lila and his conjecture about the murderer and Ellie's family ruin several lives. Years later, Ellie, now a coffee buyer, runs into the man implicated by the tell all book and the mystery is re-opened. The author manages to weave the past and present, complex mathematics and the art of coffee roasting, into a rich and wonderful story. It manages to be a thriller, couched in a dramatic and detailed novel.
This would be a good bookclub selection. And I highly recommend it.
4 + stars.
The End.
Also by Michelle Richmond is The Year of Fog which I've seen everywhere but haven't read. Any thoughts on it?
EEE!!! I can't wait to read this book! I'm glad you liked it; it's definitely at the top of my (very teetering) pile.
I really like A Year of Fog, but I don't think it's for everyone. I've heard that No One You Know is better, though. A Year of Fog may be hard for mothers...since it deals with a child kidnapping.
